Meloche’s latest bracelet collection for Starlite — a monthly jewelry subscription service that she launched in May, and which will eventually come to vend jewelry, accessories, and apparel — will fund preservation efforts for the Amazon rainforest. All proceeds from the bracelets (pictured below) will go to the Earth Alliance Amazon Forest Fund — which is hosted by a nonprofit called the Global Wildlife Conservation. The Fund has been established with an initial commitment of $5 million, with funds being distributed directly to indigenous communities and other local partners combating the fires.
Starlite launches themed, limited-edition jewelry and clothing collections every month — each touting a different theme. Past collections, for instance, have been dubbed ‘The Zodiacs’, ‘The Originals’, ‘The Sea’, and ‘The Galaxy’. The company — which says that it creates affordable, sustainable items — says that capsule collections habitually sell out within days of their release.
“The Amazon is the largest remaining rainforest on Earth that is home to unique wildlife and ecosystems — some of which have yet to even been discovered,” Meloche said in a statement. “This year alone, more than 30,000 square kilometers of rainforest has been burnt and the intensity of these fires is much greater than in past years. The fires happening are the result of the combination of deforestation farming and climate change…There is hope if we all join together, take action, and use our voices and our purchases to help affect change.”
Meloche counts 3 million subscribers across two YouTube channels and 1.7 million Instagram followers. Her lifestyle videos cover her experiences in high school, college prep, fashion, health and wellness. This year, she is embarking on a gap year in which she plans to travel, try her hand at different jobs, and work with various nonprofits.
