Google, Verizon Pact To Bring YouTube TV To More Mobile Users

Google has announced another high-profile partnership to incentivize even more YouTube TV subscribers.

Last week, it revealed it had settled its longstanding beef with fellow tech giant Amazon. Consequently, the YouTube TV app will come to Fire TV sticks and smart Fire TVs. Now, Google and Verizon have teamed up to offer customers discounted access to YouTube TV for those who sign up via three Verizon products: its core phone service, its 5G wireless internet bundle, and its fiber-optic TV service Fios.

Verizon customers with phone accounts can now subscribe to YouTube TV directly through that account. Though the company didn’t reveal details about how much the subscription (normally $49.99 per month) will be discounted for Verizon customers, it did say that “Verizon will […] offer unique, high-value promotions to customers across platforms.” As for 5G and Fios customers, they’ll be able to add YouTube TV to their bundles, presumably also at a discount.

“With this partnership, we’re making it simple and seamless for Verizon’s customers to sign up to enjoy YouTube TV on-the-go on their mobile phones or tablets or at home on their big screen devices,” Heather Rivera, YouTube’s global head of product partnerships, said.

YouTube TV is, as of last month, available in every U.S. market. But with market rollouts, and with its Amazon Fire TV deal, YouTube has been targeting folks who primarily want to watch on their at-home TVs. Google has so far raked in at least one million subscribers for YouTube TV, but with this Verizon partnership, it’s clearly looking to charm even more mobile users.
