McDonald’s Alum Tyler Oakley Teams With Fast Food Chain On Employee Mentorship Initiative

YouTube vet Tyler Oakley is teaming up with fast food giant McDonald’s on its Where You Want To Be initiative, which provides career help to employees as they weigh their next steps within the company or beyond. As part of the initiative, select restaurant workers are partnered with influencers in various fields to shadow them for the day.

Oakley’s mentee was named Kaila (pictured above), who works at the McDonald’s in his hometown of Jackson, Mich. — the same storefront where Oakley worked as a teenager. Kaila was selected after submitting a video outlining her dream of becoming a social media influencer. Last week, she was given the opportunity to shadow Oakley as he prepped for and recorded his long-running podcast, Psychobabble. Kaila also sat in on production meetings with Oakley’s team, and was able to ask him questions about his career journey thus far.

The Where You Want To Be initiative, launched last October, also furnishes tuition assistance and other career tools to McDonald’s employees, including career coaches and a mobile app. In addition to Oakley, the program’s other mentors include entrepreneurship author James Altucher, dermatologoist Dr. Meena Singh, and various McDonald’s execs.

Oakley has shared his enthusiasm for the fast food giant on his YouTube channel before. Last year, he posted a video called Working A Day At My First Job (McDonald’s). “I loved it back in the day when I worked there,” Oakley said. “It was one of my favorite jobs I’ve ever had.”
