YouTube Travel Vlogger Josh Rimer Named ‘Mr. Gay Canada’

Josh Rimer, a 41-year-old travel vlogger with 33,000 YouTube subscribers, has just clinched the title of Mr. Gay Canada.

Rimer will represent his native Canada at the Mr. Gay World competition in South Africa this April. Mr. Gay World is an international pageant of sorts for gay men. According to its website, contestants are judged on their photographs, sports acumen, a runway show, and a swimsuit competition. “The delegate will treat his body as his temple and will be active and outgoing,” the competition states. “He will have impeccable grooming standards and has a thorough understanding of what attire is appropriate for each engagement he is to encounter.”

Rimer has been active on YouTube for six years — initially via a pop culture news series called Sassy Scoop, and more recently with travel content that is also distributed on Canada’s national LGBT TV station, OUTtv. After being named Mr. Gay Canada, however, Rimer says he will now pivot content toward his journey to the Mr. Gay World compeition, as well as to spotlighting notable figures and organizations within the LGBT community.

To this end, Rimer notes that he has long volunteered for myriad LGBT-focused charities, including the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation, A Loving Spoonful, AIDS Vancouver, Loud Business, and Foundation of Hope.

“In 2018, I showcased more than 30 different gay-friendly destinations in my TV and online content, but in 2019 I want to put a spotlight on some of the amazing organizations and people in our LGBT community, in Canada, and beyond,” Rimer said in a statement.
