Lilly Singh Mounts YouTube Comeback With Ambitious Christmas Collab Series

Lilly Singh proved that even Superwoman needs a break sometimes, announcing a temporary hiatus from YouTube earlier this year due to exhaustion and creative burnout.

But now, the 30-year-old is mounting her comeback with what sounds like one of the most exhaustion-inducing feats imaginable — 12 back-to-back video collaborations on her flagship YouTube channel, as well as videos documenting the creative process on her second vlog channel. Dubbed the 12 Collabs Of Christmas, it’s a series that Singh introduced on her channel last year, featuring cameos by entertainment luminaries like Will Smith, John Legend, and Charlize Theron.

“It’s been a month since I’ve shot anything creative for my channel,” Singh shared on Instagram. “But behind the scenes, I’ve slowly been brainstorming.” She notes that while 12 Collabs has gotten her creative juices flowing again, she still has “some decisions to make about my state on YouTube” after the series concludes.

This morning, Singh shared the first of 12 collabs — a parody of Lil Dicky and Chris Brown’s Freaky Friday” music video, in which Singh and beauty vlogger James Charles switch bodies. In addition to Charles, the video also features cameos from some other YouTube heavyweights, including Jimmy Tatro (who appears in the original “Freaky Friday” music video), Casey Neistat, Gabbie Hanna, and Lauren ‘LaurDIY’ Riihimaki. Check it out below.

“Throughout these 12 collabs, I’m literally making a list of everything I love and don’t love about creating content,” Singh tweeted. “The goal is to get rid of unnecessary negative aspects that don’t need to be involved.”
