Casey Neistat’s New York Apartment Doesn’t Look Anything Like You Might Expect

YouTube megastar Casey Neistat frequently films vlogs from the comfort of his fastidiously cluttered Soho studio as well as Tribeca-based 368 — a still-in-construction collaborative space for digital creators.

But many of Neistat’s viewers might be surprised to discover that the gritty filmmaker calls home to a minimally-appointed downtown loft, accented with airy tones of cream and pink. Neistat and his wife, Candice Poolinvited famed design title Architectural Digest into their three-bedroom high-rise for an exclusive tour. The magazine called the downtown apartment a “Zenlike escape,” and interior designer Daun Curry described the couple’s design scheme as ‘Bohemian Aristocrat’.

“The chaos and roughness of the office has to be complemented by the friendliness and homeyness of where I live,” Neistat told AD. “I’ve been in New York for almost twenty years, and I’ve only just survived in the city. This is the first apartment where I feel like I’m living in New York.”

On Twitter, as a testament to how far he’s come in his career — and perhaps in reaction to the fact that digital stars are occasionally critiqued for the staggering wealth that they have amassed amid booming business opportunities — Neistat provided some context for his current digs. He says his first apartment in New York shared a bathroom with the entire floor, and he remembers “standing outside that locked bathroom door in the middle of the night, holding my then three-year-old son, waiting our turn so he could pee.”
