BroadbandTV Pacts With PBS To Help It Monetize User-Generated YouTube Uploads

Vancouver-based digital network BroadbandTV (BBTV) has forged a deal with PBS to manage all fan-uploaded YouTube content featuring its popular original shows, including science-centric NovaFrontline, which explores controversial topics; Nature; and PBS Kids.

BBTV furnishes the same content management services for illustrious publishers like the NBA, Viacom, Sony Pictures, Univision, Warner Bros., Turner, and FremantleMedia. The company’s proprietary Viso Novi technology detects fan uploads that contain the aforementioned publishers’ original works, and then allows rights holders to reclaim the IP — either by removing the YouTube video for infringement or claiming any ad revenues derived from the clip.

“The entertainment industry is facing a lot of challenges — not the least of which is protecting our IP,” PBS distribution co-president Andrea Downing said in a statement. “We need a suite of tools to be successful, and BroadbandTV will be a powerful ally in managing our content on YouTube.”
