Warner Bros. And DC Comics’ ‘DC Universe’ Streaming Service Launching In Beta This Month

Beta access to DC Universe, Warner Bros. and subsidiary company DC Comics’ new streaming service, will open this month, offering subscribers its catalog of live-action and animated features and series, as well as original programming.

The first original series set to premiere on the service is Titans, a live-action take on the Teen Titans, DC’s youngest team of superheroes, that looks to be following in the gritty footsteps of many recent DC films.

No official release date has been announced for Titans, but it will be out sometime this year, followed by additional original programming in 2019. Content set to debut in 2019 include live-action and animated series for some of DC’s most well-known teams and characters, including a live-action Doom Patrol series, a live-action Swamp Thing series, a continuation of the Young Justice: Outsiders animated series, and Harley Quinn, an adult animated comedy series, per Fortress of Solitude.

What may set DC Universe apart from other niche and brand streaming services like AMC

’s horror service Shudder and Disney’s upcoming Marvel service is that it will also host news about DC goings-on, contests, and an online shop for merch and collectibles. DC Universe will also have a built-in comic-reader, with thousands of historic issues as well as acclaimed reboots being available to complement its video offer.

“We wanted the DC Universe comic-reader to be a blend of art and technology that would further enhance fan experiences of the live-action and animated programming on DC Universe,” DC co-publisher Dan Didio said in a statement. “This hand-curated selection from our decades of comic creations gives fans a thematic digital long-box to carry with them on the device of their choosing or lets them watch exclusive video content on a big screen followed by the comic that inspired it.”

Fans can get a preview of incoming DC Universe content on its website.
