Netflix Will Enable Subscribers To Use Its Popular Characters As Their Profile Icons

Netflix is making a slight-but-engaging change to its login interface, enabling users to pick characters from its original series and films for their profile icons.

Launching in coming weeks, users will be able to choose from characters like Steve from Stranger Things, Kimmy from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Queer Eye host Jonathan Van NessBusiness Insider reports — in order to make signing into the service more personalized. Netflix launched individual profiles five years ago, allowing subscribers to create up to five separate accounts that can track watch history and receive personalized recommendations.

The update also marks a keen promotional ploy in letting users align their online IDs with their favorite characters. “We know the series and movies on Netflix are more than just things you watch to pass the time,” the company said in a statement. “The stories — and the characters in them — are also your heroes, frenemies, soulmates, and everything in between. We’re thrilled to give you a way to show your fandom and make your connection with Netflix more unique.”
