Hank Green Launches Crowdfunding Campaign For Second Annual ‘PodCon’

VidCon founder Hank Green, with his unique acumen in the live events space, unveiled last May a crowdfunding campaign for the inaugural PodCon, a Seattle gathering for those who make, consume, and advertise against podcasts — complete with live shows, workshops, panels, meet-and-greets, and more. (The event also features so-called ‘Podcast Scrambles’, where two unrelated hosts must create a one-off show).

The first-ever two-day PodCon was created by Green, Welcome To Night Vale creators Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor, and prolific podcast producers Travis and Justin McElroy. And it was such a success that the guys are currently crowdsourincg a second event to be held next Jan. 19 and 20 at the Washington State Convention Center.

The Indigogo campaign has already raised $33,500 from 250 backers of its $300,000 goal — with a month of fundraising still to go. Guests slated to attend PodCon 2 include the creators of the popular podcasts 99% Invisible (Roman Mars), Alice Isn’t Dead (Jon Bernstein), The Broadwords (Bianca Zelda), The Stoop (Hana Baba), and Hello From The Magic Tavern (Adal Rifai and Arnie Niekamp). The Indigogo campaign offers a variety of donation tiers. $30 will get donors remote attendance — or the ability to tune in digitally — while admission for the weekend is priced at $95. Those who make a $400 donation receive a 10-minute phone call with one of the event’s founders, while those who donate $750 will be able to have their podcasts critiqued. You can check out the rest of the rewards right here, as well as a teaser video courtesy of Green below:
