Connor Franta Ventured Behind The Camera To Photograph Stars At Beautycon LA

Is Connor Franta considering a new career as a photographer? For Beautycon LA 2018, the YouTube creator opted to venture to the other side of the lens.

Franta, who has over 5.5 million subscribers on YouTube — where he posts weekly comedic vlogs — photographed this year’s Beautycon in Los Angeles for Paper magazine. He captured a number of attendees at the event, including fellow YouTuber Jay Versace, Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness, Instagram model Jordyn Woods, and makeup artist Daniel Ruiz Smith.

Franta isn’t new to photography. He took some self-portraits for PAPER in February, and he’s been documenting his life via Instagram — where he has over 5.1 million followers — for years. Franta spoke to Fast Company in 2015 about how to take the perfect photo for the social media platform. “When a moment in front of me appears to be particularly special, whether it be by beauty or experience, I capture it,” Franta told Fast Company. “I usually find a reason to justify taking that photo — symmetry, or color, or contrast.”

When it came to his Beautycon portraits for PAPER, Franta paid attention to those details. “My portrait studio aims to capture everyone in a colorful contrast to whatever light they already feel most comfortable in,” he told the publication. You can find his portraits from the event here.

Beautycon hosted upwards of 200 featured influencers in the Los Angeles Convention Center on July 14 and 15, including Kim Kardashian West, Snoop Dogg, and YouTube makeup artist Kandee Johnson, as well as over 100 brands — from MAC to Target to Kylie Cosmetics.
