In July, Stareable will celebrate a community of self-starting digital video creators through what it hopes will be a busy gathering. The media company, which offers a host of indie web series and discussion forums on its platform, is gearing up for Stareable Fest, a three-day event that will take place at New York City’s Town Stages from July 20-22.
To entice creators, executives, and other online video industry people to pony up for one of Stareable Fest’s $75 passes, Stareable is filling its event with panels, screenings, speeches, networking opportunities, and, like any other web festival, an official competition. Noted showrunner Bernie Su will deliver a keynote address on the festival’s first night, and representatives from Patreon, Seed & Spark, Oath, Vice Media, and PBS will be among the weekend’s featured panelists.
“Stareable sees the unbelievable quality coming from the web series world and is excited to help these talented, diverse creators get the recognition they deserve by connecting them with mainstream platforms looking for unique new voices,” said Stareable co-founder Ajay Kishore in a press release.
The 47 projects that are included in Stareable Fest’s official selection include several we’ve featured on this site, including This Is Desmondo Ray, Driving Arizona, and Educated Fleas. Other notable programs, such as Streamy nominee Edgar Allan Poe’s Murder Mystery Dinner Party and the animated series People Watching, are also in the running. The selected shows will be judged by a jury that will include the likes of Aymar Jean Christian and Jenni Powell.
Ultimately, only one of those projects will receive the Best Of Stareable Fest commendation, which comes with a $2,000 prize and a meeting with Su. For all of its attendees, however, Stareable Fest will serve as a great networking opportunity and a chance to meet the wide range of individuals who are currently cooking up their own shows in the indie web series community.
