A Day In The Life Of Agents At VidCon With Abrams Artists’ ‘Quad Squad’

Abrams Artists has more female agents in digital media than any of its competitors, it says — a total of seven across both coasts. And this VidCon, the first time that the massive convention is being hosted under the auspices of new proprietor Viacom, Abrams’ self-described ‘Quad Squad’ was out in full force.

Vice president Jade Sherman, founding department member Amanda Marzolf, and agents Melissa DeMarco and Marienor Madrilejo have dubbed themselves the Quad Squad because they are staying together in a quad hotel suite this year: a central location to host client meetings as well as to start and end the day as a team. Additionally, four other Abrams agents are in attendance at VidCon from the firm’s New York and Los Angeles offices.

Abrams clients at VidCon include: Andrea Brooks, who just unveiled her very own cosmetics line; Clevver executive producer and host Joslyn Davis; Roi ‘Guava Juice’ Fabito, who recently announced the launch of his toy line at Target; ballerina-turned-gamer Atomic Mari; Instagram model and comedian Liane V; vlogger-filmmaker Mikey Murphy; and Sophia Grace, a U.K. singer who went viral several years ago for her cover of Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass.”

Check out a rundown of the team’s experience at VidCon below:

Wednesday:

5:00 PM — Marienor left for VidCon while Jade, Amanda, and Melissa had to meet up with clients at two non-VidCon events in L.A. — one for fashion brand BooHoo and the other for beauty giant Estee Lauder.

Amanda Marzolf, Melissa DeMarco, Jade Sherman, and Marienor Madrilejo.

7:00 PM — Marienor raced Kaitlin Coffman — director of talent partnerships at StyleHaul — at the Tubefilter kick-off party, before ultimately crashing into the side of the track. We all decided that she would be given the suite’s king-sized bed to ease her pain (from embarrassment).

10:30 PM — After having a blast at the party, we decided to stay out and headed over to the Hyatt, where we bumped into Seth Jacobs from Brillstein as well as friends from StyleHaul, Bumble, and talent manager Ray Hughes.

Midnight — After a long day at the office and out at events, we reconvened in our suite to plan out VidCon 2018. With our calendars synced up and our early meetings finalized, we headed to bed, ready to take on the days ahead.

Thursday:

9:00 AM — Nothing like starting the day with some coffee, cookies, and chocolate during a brand meeting with Mikey Murphy — who was the first client Melissa signed three years ago — and Cadbury.

9:30 AM — Marienor started off the day with Roi at a Make-A-Wish meet-and-greet. Spending time with Gavin and his family was the perfect way to start the day. Being charitable is one of Roi’s most important values, so we’re thankful for our friends at Make-A-Wish for always giving us these incredible opportunities. Roi not only got to hang out with Gavin, but got to share some toys from his new line, which will be launching at Target very soon.

10:00 AM — Just before the Smosh panel, we hung out at the Snapchat lounge with clients Olivia Sui and Keith Leak. At their panel, they divulged details of their first jobs and the weirdest things they do in the office (turns out it’s watching YouTube dance tutorials and practicing choreography).

11:00 AM — We met up with Fullscreen’s touring team to talk about Tessa Brooks’ recent announcement that she’s headlining Girls Night In as a solo act this summer. At the same time, Melissa escorted Mikey to interviews with Snapchat, AwesomenessTV, and Twitter — and then, later on, to an interview alongside Luke Korns at the Viacom Lounge to promote Mikey and Luke’s new joint YouTube channel.

2:00 PM — Amanda met up with her old friend Billy Le, who serves as Fullscren‘s senior manager of creator strategy and operations. They discussed Fullscreen’s new management focus and creator offerings, and then grabbed some nachos.

2:30 PM — Jade and her boss, Alec Shankman, had a meeting with Bent PixelsMike Posateri and Nick Carreras.

2:45 PM — We bumped into the Edelman team in the Marriott lobby, with whom we work on influencer campaigns for Special K, the Boys & Girls Club, and Marshalls. Then, Jade and her client Daniella Perkins had a meet-up in Hall D with Nickelodeon with the rest of the cast of Knight Squad.

3:45 PM — Roi, Marienor, and Melissa had a meeting with the Lego team to talk possible future partnerships. Then, Marienor and her client Dytto had a meeting with Mattel‘s marketing teams, where Dytto had the opportunity to tell the toy company how she went viral for her “Barbie Girl” performance on NBC‘s World Of Dance.

4:30 PM — We had some quality time at the Hollister activation with brand manager DJ Ringley and Authentic Management’s Amron Lopez, aka ‘Glamron‘.

At Hollister with DJ Ringley, AAA’s Melissa DeMarco, and Authentic Management’s Amron Lopez.

4:45 PM – Amanda and AAA VP Mark Turner took a few meetings together on the show floor — one with Wix to talk about current campaigns with our clients Mr. Kate and the McClure Twins.

6:00 PM – At our cocktail reception at Oggi’s in Anaheim, the whole team hosted clients and friends. It was also a chance to recap a whirlwind day of panels, activations, launches, and more.

AAA’s digital team at the company’s cocktail reception: Miles Lozano, Amanda Marzolf, Melissa DeMarco, Keith Bielory, Mark Turner, Marienor Madrilejo, Alec Shankman, and Jade Sherman.

7:00 PM — Time to freshen up and head off to YouTube’s Partner Reception, Weintrob Tobin’s cocktail party, and the Rise9 after party.

Midnight — It was a long and great day. So much accomplished, so many miles logged at the convention, and so much fun with clients, partners, and friends. We’ll do a team regroup in the suite and then off to sleep for another jam-packed day.
