YouTube Millionaires: Cody Ko Celebrates “Awesome And Rewarding” Response To His Videos

Welcome to YouTube Millionaires, where we profile channels that have recently crossed the one million subscriber mark. There are channels crossing this threshold every week, and each has a story to tell about YouTube success. Read previous installments of YouTube Millionaires here.

Cody Ko is a man of many formats.

The 27-year-old Canadian (real name Cody Kolodziejzyk), who first rose to prominence thanks to his Vines, has now branched out across the internet and beyond. On YouTube, he dissects dicey videomaking in his That’s Cringe series and analyses current trends on the internet. In the podcasting world, he hosts two shows — Insanely Chill and Tiny Meat Gang — alongside his friend and frequent collaborator Noel Miller. They also make music together, too.

Now, Ko (who is partnered with Fullscreen) has surpassed one million YouTube subscribers. Here’s what he had to say about it.

Tubefilter: How does it feel to have more than one million YouTube subscribers? What do you have to say to your fans?

Cody Ko: Feels right. I always knew I was god’s gift to YouTube but now I have that sweet M beside my name to prove it. Kidding, it feels very surreal. I’ve put a ton of work into my channel over the past year-and-a-half so the fact that people actually enjoy my videos is awesome and rewarding.

TF: Your channel has grown rather quickly. Why do you think that is?

CK: Mainly from ripping on the Paul brothers.

TF: Where do you get ideas for your sketches and how long does it take to put each one together?

CK: I’d love to say that my ideas “just come to me” but I have to sit and watch hours and hours of YouTube before I think of a good video concept. From start to finish my videos probably take me like 10 to 12 hours.

TF: What’s the most interesting response you’ve ever received from a creator (or a fan of a creator) who you made a video about?

CK: Probably Tai Lopez inviting me to his house.

TF: What’s one online video trend you’d like to see go away?

CK: Oh man there are too many to choose from.

TF: As someone who often dissects cringey content on the internet, what’s a mistake you think brands make when they try to speak to audiences on the internet?

CK: “Make sure you use our really fun awesome hashtag that kids are gonna definitely click on and connect with!!”

TF: As someone with multiple podcasts, what do you enjoy about that particular format?

CK: I really love that I have a platform like that where I can speak my mind about things without having to edit it for hours afterwards. Feels more genuine and real. I really look forward to recording every week.

TF: What was your favorite moment from your recent tour?

CK: The whole tour was amazing but man the second show in San Francisco was something special. Over 300 people were there and the energy was crazy. Noel had an anxiety attack on stage. So I’m sure if you asked him this question his answer would be different.

TF: What’s next for your channel? Any fun plans?

CK: More music stuff.
