Christina Grimmie’s Family Releases Soulful Posthumous Track In Honor Of Mother’s Day

Christina Grimmie‘s family continues to share unreleased music from the late YouTube songstress.

In honor of Mother’s Day yesterday, the family released “Little Girl” — an original track written and recorded by Grimmie when she was just 12 years old in tribute to her mom, who was fighting breast cancer at the time.

“I am proud to share this extremely personal song with other mothers and daughters as well as Christina’s fans,” Christina’s mother, Tina Grimmie, told People in a statement. “It is very special to me and carries a part of not only Christina but our unique bond. I miss her daily and I take comfort in knowing that this song might help other mothers and daughters through their fearful or tough times.”

A portion of the proceeds will go to the Christina Grimmie Foundation, which was established last April to help other families affected by gun violence or breast cancer. Grimmie, who rose to renown for her YouTube covers and placed third on season six of the NBC singing competition series The Voice, was fatally shot by a crazed fan at age 22 during a meet-and-greet before an Orlando concert in June 2016. The family has released other posthumous material in addition to “Little Girl” as a means of mourning her loss and celebrating Grimmie’s gifts.
