Kevin Hart Invites Filmmakers To Submit To Just For Laughs, Laugh Out Loud’s Eat My Shorts Contest

Kevin Hart is telling aspiring filmmakers to Eat My Shorts. That’s the name of a contest, now in its second year, run by Hart’s Laugh Out Loud network and the Just For Laughs festival. Ahead of the 2018 edition of Just For Laughs, which will begin in Montreal on July 11, Hart and co. are seeking short film submissions from comedy creators, one of whom will ultimately win a $7,000 development deal with Laugh Out Loud.

Eat My Shorts submissions are expected to appeal to “multicultural, millennial” audiences, and the contest rules specify that “a diverse cast and/or filmmakers” is a must. And, of course, they should be funny.

Submissions for the contest are currently open and will remain so until May 31. On June 27, ten semifinalists will be shared on the Laugh Out Loud website, where viewers will be able to vote for the projects that deserve one of five spots in the Just For Laughs lineup. At the festival, one of those five projects will be announced as the Eat My Shorts winner and will earn a partnership with Hart’s nine-month-old platform.

Hart offered more details about the contest in a video shared on the Just For Laughs YouTube channel:

“Laugh Out Loud is committed to elevating the next generation of comedic filmmakers and their films,” said Amber Rasberry, Laugh Out Loud’s Executive Director of Production and Development, in a press release. “We are excited to partner again with Just For Laughs, the world’s biggest comedy festival, to bring our audience fresh new content from emerging talent.”

Eat My Shorts isn’t the only filmmaking contest that reveal its winner at this year’s Just For Laughs gathering. The festival will also showcase exemplary projects from Stand Up & Pitch, a comedy content search co-sponsored by Tubefilter. Submissions for that competition close on Monday, May 14.
