In the days after a video of his Walmart yodeling performance gathered more than 20 million YouTube views, 11-year-old Mason Ramsey received the usual attention bestowed to viral video stars. He gained thousands of new fans, inspired countless memes, and, of course, performed on Ellen.
But Ellen DeGeneres wasn’t the only celebrity Ramsey got to meet. Last weekend, he went to Coachella as the guest of DJ Whetan, and in addition to belting out his favorite Hank Williams tunes during the festival, he also met Justin Bieber, who took a shine to the precocious youngster.
Bieber, like Ramsey, was discovered on the internet when his powerful voice caught the attention of the recording industry during his tween years. Bieber was seen beaming during Ramsey’s Coachella performance, and the two singers found time to meet up, with Bieber saying he was “proud” of America’s favorite yodeler.
Ramsey is surely making the most of his 15 minutes. He may never hear a roar like that again, but at least for one day, he was a hot topic in the California desert.
