Description: Women who have faced catcalling and other forms of street harassment can use an upcoming web series as a form of catharsis. Brittany Rae Robinson is the creator seeking funding for Street Series, which will respond to aggressive come-ons on the sidewalk in a comedic manner.
Robinson, like many other women who live in major cities, has faced an incessant stream of loaded compliments while walking down the street, standing at the bus stop, or just hanging out in public in general. She shares a few of these experiences in her Street Series pitch video. “Ladies and gents,” she says, “we shouldn’t have to put up with this.”
Episodes of Street Series will envision various scenarios in the world of catcalling and will play them for laughs. Robinson noted that the plotlines she will feature will be drawn from her own life experiences.
Creator Bio: Robinson is based in Toronto, where she is involved in the local theatre scene.
Best Perk: Backers who chip in at least $50 can name one of the catcallers who appears in Street Series. Choose the name of an enemy for revenge, or choose a ridiculous name for the lulz.
Why You Should Fund It: The realities of big-city catcalling have made for compelling online video viewership in the past, and Robinson seems like she has a keen enough creative eye to bring street harassment back into the spotlight once again. Hers is a small-sized project that deserves to pick up what little funding it needs to see the light of day. Here’s hoping Street Series reaches its goal without drawing any unnecessary comments along the way.
