Tyler Oakley To Chronicle His Life Before YouTube In New Docuseries

Having establishing himself as one of YouTube’s foremost creators over the past decade, Tyler Oakley will now give roughly 8 million subscribers a glimpse into his pre-vlogging existence.

In a new docuseries that will live on his channel called Tyler Oakley’s Going Home, the 29-year-old will travel back to his old Michigan haunts and introduce formative figures from his past. The series also looks to be chock full of adorable home videos. “In the past decade, I have really shared everything with you,” Oakley says in an announcement video (below), “but so much happened before that. And this is a chance for me to show you where I come from, what made me into who I am, and the people that turned me into this!”

Episode one will premiere on April 10, and two episodes of Going Home — which Oakley directed alongside filmmaker Nathan Flanagan-Frankl — will roll out each week for the remainder of the month.

This isn’t the first time that Oakley has tried his hand at a more conceptual and premium-leaning series on YouTube. Last year, for instance, in honor of LGBT Pride Month, Oakley unveiled an eight-part series called Chosen Family that served to celebrate notable voices within the queer community. And back in 2015, he released a documentary called Snervous, which chronicled his Slumber Party Tour, and which was available for purchase on various VOD platforms.
