Test Your Six-Second Video Knowledge With The “Vine AP Exam”

I hope you’ve studied up on your six-second videos, because a guy who calls himself the “Vine demigod” is ready to test your knowledge of short-form, user-generated comedy. His name is Karan, and he’s the proctor of the “Vine AP exam,” which includes 43 questions about famous videos that originated on the bygone platform shut down by Twitter back in late 2016.

As New York Magazine explained, Karan drafted up the Vine AP exam in order to challenge his friend Hayley Roettger. The visual design of the test mimics that of the College Board’s Advanced Placement exams,  but the subject matter does not. Across 43 questions, Karan asks his pupils to recall details of his favorite Vines. Some of the material is pretty simple (if you can’t fill in the blank after “officer I’ve got one question for you,” you should probably drop the course), but many of the references are obscure. Though I’d consider myself reasonably familiar with Vine and its culture, I only managed 25 correct answers.

Karan explained his test construction process to New York. “It took around two hours, and my process included just the Vines I knew from the top of my head,” he said. “Then I just searched famous Vines and watched a few of them to get inspiration to create questions.”

The test can be found here and the answer key is here. And if you flunk it, don’t worry — you can always take a remedial course once Vine 2 launches.
