YouTube Millionaires: Sofie Dossi’s Got Talent Thanks To “Extreme Focus And Hard Work”

Welcome to YouTube Millionaires, where we profile channels that have recently crossed the one million subscriber mark. There are channels crossing this threshold every week, and each has a story to tell about YouTube success. Read previous installments of YouTube Millionaires here.

Few content creators work harder than Sofie Dossi.

At 16 years old, Dossi has already established herself on YouTube, YouNow, and other social platforms; she has become a master contortionist, a skill she showed off during a run to the finals of the 11th season of America’s Got Talent; and she has proved herself to be a winsome and amiable vlogger. Taken together, those accomplishments have helped Sofie bring more than one million subscribers to her YouTube channel. Here’s what she had to say about that:

Tubefilter: How does it feel to have more than one million YouTube subscribers? What do you have to say to your fans?

Sofie Dossi: MIND BOGGLING! I can’t believe that in one year I was able to reach this incredible milestone. I love every single one of my fans that tune in and watch my funny and crazy tricks and just plain silliness. I LOVE YOU ALL!

TF: Your channel has grown rapidly over the past year. Why do you think that is?

SD: I think to many people, especially young people, I represent the idea that if you work hard and you love something, you can do it. That’s how I got to be a finalist on America’s Got Talent—I found something I loved and taught myself with extreme focus and hard work. People recognize they have that in them too. I often read through my comments and what I hear over and over is that I’ve inspired them to work hard at what they love and they’re so happy about it. I’m so grateful to be that role model.

TF: Of all the highlights in your career thus far, what has been your single favorite moment?

SD: My absolute favorite moment was the moment I got the Golden Buzzer from Reba McEntire on America’s Got Talent. There’s nothing like a rain of gold glitter showering down on you and four celebrity judges and an entire audience giving you a standing ovation. It felt surreal.

TF: What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about contortionists?

SD: Some people think you have to be born flexible. While you definitely need a certain level of natural flexibility, you can actually work at it and be able to do some contortion moves you didn’t think you could do. BUT…it does take a consistent and safe stretching regimen to accomplish that.

TF: How are you able to learn new skills so quickly? What’s your secret?

SD: I actually do a lot of mental work. I like to close my eyes and imagine moves I’ve never seen before that seem physically impossible. It’s almost like I’m watching a movie in my head then I make the movie a reality.

TF: What do you like best about mobile live streaming platforms like Live.me and Musical.ly?

SD: It feels like a personal connection to my fans in real time. I feel like I’m hanging out with friends. I get to take them with me backstage when I’m doing my hair for a performance or when I’m just training at home in my living room.

TF: What’s the most significant way your life has changed since you first appeared on America’s Got Talent?

SD: I have a lot less spare time! I travel a lot now doing live performances all over the world and I spend a lot of time creating YouTube videos every week. But I have a blast doing both, especially creating my videos and knowing that I’m connecting with so many people. I started as just a girl who tried crazy stunts in her front yard with baffled neighbors watching to now all this and I LOVE IT.

TF: Where do you see yourself in five years?

SD: With many million more wonderful subscribers, of course! Everything has been changing so fast so it’s hard to be specific. I like to stay in the present and do what I love and see what happens. The last few years have flowed that way and awesome things have happened as a result. So my motto is stay in the present, do what you love, and good things will come your way!

TF: What’s next for your channel? Any fun plans?

SD: Subscribe and find out!! And there are some cool collabs in the works!
