Every year, people turn to YouTube to listen to some Valentine’s Day tunes. Whether they’re songs about romance or breakups, their view counts always seem to go up on February 14.
Thus, YouTube has curated a list of the “Top 10 Trending” songs on Valentine’s Day. From Celine Dion to Boyz II Men, the king of rock to, well, a king of R&B, the list has some obvious romantic favorites, as well as Akon’s Lonely. But what’s most interesting about the list is just how much more views these songs get on Valentine’s Day compared to the rest of the year.
For instance, at the top of the trending chart, views of Dion’s Because You Loved Me go up by 120.1% on February 14. (The percentage represents the average spike on Valentine’s Day 2015 through 2017 compared to other daily view averages.) Next on the list is Richard Marx’s Right Here Waiting, with a 91.2% viewership increase on V-Day. At the bottom of the list there’s the classic 80s hit Take My Breath Away by Berlin, whose February 14 views increase 17.6%—surely because many people regularly listen to the song originally created to highlight the romance in Top Gun, anyway.

As an aside, a lot of people posted Valentine’s Day playlists to YouTube this year. Some of them appear to be more romantic than others. Listen to them at your own risk. By the looks of these playlists, it seems like Ed Sheeran will definitely make next year’s top 10 trending list on February 14.
