Instagram Testing ‘Regram’ Feature — But Only Within Its ‘Stories’ Section

Instagram is piloting a long-clamored-for feature that would enable users to ‘Regram’ one another’s posts — though only in the form of Stories.

Techcrunch reports that Instagram has yet to implement a ‘Retweet’ equivalent in a bid to encourage users to share original content — though a nascent test among a small user percentage signals that the platform may be reconsidering this approach. By tapping a new ‘Add post to your story’ option that appears after hitting the ‘Share’ icon, select users can now Regram other public posts to their own Stories. Reshared posts can also be adorned with text and stickers.

Previously, the same result could be achieved simply by screen-shotting a post. However, the new feature — should it go live — would make the process far more seamless.

Instagram confirmed the experiment to Techcrunch, stating that it is “always testing ways to make it easier to share any moment with friends on Instagram.” Any user who doesn’t want their posts to be shared can turn off the feature in ‘Settings’.
