Hulu, fresh off a big night at The Golden Globes and the announcement that it now counts 17 million subscribers, has provided a glimpse into the second season of its highly-anticipated tentpole series The Handmaid’s Tale, which is slated to premiere in April.
Given that the first season was based on Margaret Atwood’s classic dystopian novel, the second season of the series — which is created by Bruce Miller and produced by MGM Television — will tread brand new ground. According to Hulu, season two will be “shaped by Offred’s pregnancy and her ongoing fight to free her future child from the dystopian horrors of Gilead.” Elisabeth Moss, who stars as the aforementioned protagonist, will executive produce alongside Warren Littlefield, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, and Ilene Chaiken. “’Gilead is within you’ is a favorite saying of [antagonist] Aunt Lydia,” according to Hulu. “In season two, Offred and all our characters will fight against – or succumb to – this dark truth.” Other returning cast members include Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski, Samira Wiley, Alexis Bledel, Ann Dowd, and Max Minghella.
