Buzzy Live-Streaming Trivia App HQ Plans To Launch Android Version On New Year’s Day

Android users will soon be able to get their hands on the live-streaming trivia phenomenon that has captivated its fans, 12 questions at a time. HQ, which continues to pull in audiences that exceed 500,000 players just two months after its release

, has announced its plan to arrive in the Google Play store on New Year’s Day.

HQ, founded by two of the guys who brought Vine into existence, has won fans thanks to its addictive format. Twice per day, at 3 PM and 9 PM ET, host Scott Rogowsky reads off a dozen multiple-choice questions. Anyone who answers all 12 correctly wins a portion of that game’s prize.

While trivia buffs have waited for HQ’s Google Play arrival, several bootleg versions have sprang up. One, titled The Q, has received negative reviews due to its poor performance. The official Android version of the game is currently in testing and is expected to roll out publicly on January 1. On the Google Play store, fans can pre-register if they want to receive updates about the app’s status.

Though HQ is one of the hot new apps of the moment, it has faced some stumbling blocks as it continues to grow. The behavior of co-founder Colin Kroll during his tenure at Twitter has reportedly caused some potential investors to pump the brakes, and a few potential competitors — including one developed by live-streaming app Live.me — have appeared in recent weeks.

By introducing itself to the Android community, HQ will have another opportunity to grow and add new players. Hopefully its dev team will be able to sort out the app’s chronic bugginess as it continues to scale.
