Snapchat’s Latest Product Launch Is An $80 ‘Dancing Hot Dog’ Halloween Costume

As Snapchat faces increased competition from Instagram, which pilfered its signature Stories feature, parent company Snap has unveiled its latest product launch just in time for Halloween: an $80 Dancing Hot Dog Costume that became available for sale yesterday on Amazon.

A product description refers to the hot dog as “the world’s first augmented reality superstar” given that it’s a massively popular animation which Snapchatters can insert into Snaps using the app’s World Lenses feature. Snap founder Evan Spiegel says that the character has been viewed within the app more than 1.5 billion times.

Snap has previously sold kitschy merchandise, according to The Financial Times, including plushies and beach towels emblazoned with its signature ghost logo — though the company’s biggest non-software launch to date has been its Spectacles, which were similarly gimmicky in that they were initially vended via automated vending machines in surprise locations across the country. Snap has sold roughly 150,000 pairs of Spectacles to date, according to the Times.

You can check out the Amazon listing, which jokes that the costume is “made of 100% beef, but never starts it” and also promises to help wearers “achieve your wildest dreams (probably),” right here.
