YouTube’s ‘Chicken Connoisseur’ Will Pit “Street” Vs. “Elite” In UK TV Show

The Chicken Connoisseur‘s love of fried food has taken him from YouTube to TV. Elijah Quashie, whose reviews of London-area chicken shops are the basis for his popular web series The Pengest Munch, will star in a show called The Peng Life, which will air on Channel 4 in the UK.

As shared by The GuardianThe Peng Life will ask Quashie to compare “street” and “elite” versions of the same type of item across categories like food and fashion. Ultimately, he will decide which products represent the best deals for consumers. That premise is reminiscent of Worth It, the web series that has become a viral sensation by comparing high and low cuisine. Worth It recently planted its own roots in the UK, but now it has competition.

“On YouTube I do the chicken ting, but now on Channel 4 I’m reviewing everything,” said Quashie

. “The cheapest stuff to the most expensive stuff. Basically the deadest stuff you’ll ever find to the most expensive, baller status stuff. I’ll see if it’s worth the moolah. Hold tight.”

Quashie is known for his honest takes on the chicken he eats as well as his frequent use of the slang term “peng,” an adjective that means “high-quality.” His exploits on YouTube led him to a book deal, which was announced earlier this year. Meanwhile, he continues to post occasional Pengest Munch episodes on his channel:

Channel 4 hopes that Quashie’s presence will help bring in a younger generation of viewers. The Peng Life will premiere “later this year.”
