YouTube Comedian Gus Johnson’s ‘Par 9’ Web Series Arrives For Fast-Growing Audience

Gus Johnson‘s new web series is taking its shots. Johnson, whose YouTube channel has been on the up-and-up of late thanks to a series of pithy sketches he has produced, is the co-creator and co-star of Par 9, a comedy set on a run-down golf course.

In Par 9, Johnson portrays one of four friends who must work together to manage a Wisconsin golf course that has seen better days. In the first episode, they find bees in the port-a-potty — and that’s only one of their issues.

After originally sharing a pilot for Par 9 on YouTube, Johnson turned to Kickstarter to crowdsource the funds he needed to turn his idea into a bigger project. After successfully hitting his goal, he and co-creator Curtis Leszczynski (who makes some funny videos of his own) have rolled out the expanded version of their show for Johnson’s subscribers.

This is a good time for Johnson to launch a new web series. Since he posted a parody of Spotify’s loud, grating ads back in July, his channel has taken off. Approximately two months later, he has added 60,000 new subscribers to his channel, has pulled in about 12 million fresh views, and has launched a podcast called Okay, I’ll Talk. With Par 9, he’s exploring a brand of long-form comedy that complements the shorter sketches on his channel. His web series work may be a little rough around the edges, as many indie projects on the internet are, but it’s funny — and his growing audience will appreciate its chatty, irreverent vibe.
