YouTube Star Hank Green’s First Book Picks Up Publishing Deal, Due Out Fall 2018

The more scientifically-inclined of the two Vlogbrothers is joining his fraternal partner in the world of novelists. Hank Green, who over the past decade has established himself as one of the most eminent figures within the online video industry, has landed a publishing deal for his literary debut, titled An Absolutely Remarkable Thing.

An Absolutely Remarkable Thing tells the story of an art student who discovers a sculpture of a giant robot in the middle of Manhattan. After she documents her experience with the mysterious object online, she finds herself thrust into a bigger story with international implications. Green, who knows a thing or two about the power the social web holds, will make internet culture one of the chief themes of his work.

“We’re at a really weird moment in history, and April’s story helps highlight several of those oddities that we’re now seeing as more and more normal,” said Green in a press release. “It’s a story I’ve wanted to tell for a long time that was seeded by a lot of my personal experiences, but it’s April’s story, and it’s been a pleasure watching her live her absolutely remarkable life. I am so excited to have a real-live novel be published by such a talented team.”

Green’s brother John is a bestselling author whose bibliography includes the YA romance novel The Fault in our Stars, which has sold more than ten million copies to date and has been adapted into a major motion picture. More than a decade after they began swapping videos with one another, Hank and John are still at it. The Vlogbrothers channel, on which they share their digital correspondence, has received more than 700 million views to date.

Green noted back in April that he had submitted a first draft of his book to an agent, and that process eventually led him to a deal with Penguin Books subsidiary Dutton, which has agreed to a publishing deal with him.

An Absolutely Remarkable Thing is due out in the fall of 2018.
