Last year, Cartoon Network rebooted fan favorite The Powerpuff Girls with a new series that presented the latest adventures of Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup. As part of the show’s return, Cartoon Network is introducing a fourth Powerpuff Girl, Bliss, who made her premiere in a five-part special that first aired on September 17.
In each region where The Powerpuff Girls is broadcast, Cartoon Network recruited a local voice actor to portray Bliss, and that’s where Wendy Ayche — known online as Wengie — enters this story. In the version of Powerpuff Girls that will air in Australia and New Zealand, Ayche, who was born in China and grew up in Australia, will provide the voice of Bliss.
Ayche’s channel, a cheery blend of vlogs, DIY projects, life hacks, beauty tutorials, and other video types, has emerged as one of the most popular YouTube hubs in the Asia-Pacific region. She has more than 8.7 million total subscribers, and her content has collectively reined in close to 600 million views. Thanks to her digital prowess, she was able to land a deal with talent agency UTA.
As Bliss’ arc continues, Ayche will have more opportunities to present the character to Australian and Kiwi viewers. “This is a dream come true that I never knew I had, but now am like ‘why wasn’t this ever my dream to begin with!?'” Ayche wrote in an Instagram post announcing her new role. She thanked her fans, whom she refers to as “Wengiecorns,” and informed them that “we are going to save the world.”
The Powerpuff Girls reboot premiered in 2016. The original version of the show aired between 1998 and 2005.
