We receive a ton of tips every day from independent creators, unaffiliated with any major motion picture studios, television networks, new media studios, or other well-funded online video entities. The Indie Spotlight is where we’ll write about and shout out to a select few of them and bring you up to speed on the great (and sometimes not-so-great) attention-grabbing series you probably haven’t heard about until now. A web series from France is bringing intrigue, humor, and thrills to a screen near you. Charlène Dautais and Maude Davy-Zeller are the co-creators of Evadés du Temps, which follows the time-hopping adventures of a thief and a secret agent.
In the first episode of the series, we meet our heroes. Emma (Letitia Legrix) is a capable and cunning thief, while Simon (Cyril Benoit) in an agent who takes a keen interest in her. At the end of the first episode, when they meet at an ancient ruin, we are introduced to the show’s time-traveling conceit. Evadés du Temps roughly translates to “time escapers,” and Emma and Simon will find themselves in several historical eras as their partnership develops.
(Note: Evadés du Temps is in French with English subtitles.)
As Davy-Zeller told Tubefilter, her team has financed two episodes on their own and is seeking a production partner in order to continue on with more. So far, Evadés du Temps has displayed an easy charm and a slick sense of style, and its leads deliver fine performances. Here’s hoping that viewers around them world get to see more of Emma and Simon’s temporal travels going forward.
