Newsy’s Cable TV Presence To Reach 26 Million Homes Through Newly Rebranded Channel

Newsy, the news media company that gained a foothold on social platforms like Facebook before expanding to over-the-top and digital TV platforms, is increasing its presence in the world of cable. Its owner E.W. Scripps, which acquired it back in 2013 for $35 million, has announced its purchase of Retirement Living Television, a channel that will be rebranded as the TV home of Newsy.

Newsy’s new cable hub currently reaches 26 million homes, and E.W. Scripps hopes to expand that number to 40 million by the end of 2018. The final purchase price, according to a press release, could go as high as $23 million.

In its new home, Newsy will continue to streamline its 24-hour feed. It gained some experience with that format last year, when it brought its Newsy Live service — which is also available on platforms like Sling TV — to Cincinnati Bell‘s FiOptics subscribers. In addition to coverage and commentary related to major stories, Newsy’s lineup includes several original programs, some of which it shared during its presentation at the NewFronts earlier this year.

“Newsy has already made a name for itself among millennial news consumers who rely on over-the- top television. Now we’ll be reaching Americans with cable and satellite service who are looking for a fresh approach to news coverage,” said Adam Symson, president and CEO of Scripps, in a press release. “This expanded reach for our advertising business alongside carriage fees furthers our strategy to develop Newsy as a prominent multi-platform news network with dual revenue streams.”

If Newsy’s cable channel doesn’t fit your needs, you can continue to keep up with the brand on social media. Its Facebook page remains very active and has more than 1.2 million followers
