YouTube Chief Business Officer Robert Kyncl Has Written A Book About The Rise Of Online Video

As YouTube‘s Chief Business Officer, Robert Kyncl is one of the most powerful and knowledgable digital media executives in the business. Now, he’s sharing some of his savvy in print form. He has authored Streampunks: YouTube And The Rebels Remaking Media, a book that details the rise of the online video industry’s homegrown creative community and explains how they are shaping the future of content.

Kyncl has had a long career in online video; before joining YouTube in 2010, he spent seven years at Netflix, where he served as VP of Content. In Streampunks, which he wrote alongside Maany Peyvan, he will synthesize the information he has learned during his time and these two innovative media companies, while also sprinkling in insights from top YouTube stars like Tyler Oakley, Casey Neistat, and Lilly Singh.

“In the past ten years, the internet video

platform YouTube has changed media and entertainment as profoundly as the invention of film, radio, and television did, more than six decades earlier,” reads a description of the book posted by its publisher, HarperCollins. “Streampunks is a firsthand account of this upstart company, examining how it evolved and where it will take us next.”

In order to promote his new tome, Kyncl has rubbed shoulders with entertainment industry notables. His launch party for Streampunks, which occurred at the Hamptons home of fellow YouTube exec Lyor Cohen and boasted guests like Chance The Rapper, was glitzy enough to make the New York Post’s gossipy Page Six section.

Streampunks will arrive on digital shelves on September 5. If you’d like to pre-order it before then, you can reserve a copy through Amazon.
