Fund This: ‘Nobody’ Tells A Dark, Richly Thematic Tale

Welcome to the Fund This column! Each week, we’ll look at a planned web series or other online video project currently in search of funding on crowdfunding sites. We’ll tell you what the series is all about and explain why it is worth your money. Do you have a project that’s currently being crowdfunded? Description: Two creators with plenty of experience in the entertainment industry are hoping to tell a dark and complex story about the meaning of justice. Josh Daugherty and Felicia Willson are the creators behind Nobody, a deeply intimate drama seeking seed funding on Indiegogo.

Nobody will follow a couple who must reckon with the sexual abuse and murder of their daughter. In doing so, they must grapple with weighty topics while making sure to keep their wits about them. For Tom, the male half of the leading couple, those tasks prove rather difficult, especially since, as a therapist for sexual abuse victims, he is constantly reminded of his own personal tragedy.

“It’s a universal story about trust and secrets, faith and doubt, and forgiveness and punishment,” reads Nobody‘s Indiegogo campaign. “It explores the idea that when grief, guilt, and fury collide…perhaps justice is the best therapy.”

The money the Daugherty and Willson hope to raise will serve as seed funding for their show. From there, they hope to turn to investors in order to raise a full budget of $550,000.

Creator Bio: Daughtery is a veteran of dozens of films, TV shows, and commercials. Willson is best known for her tenure on The West Wing, on which she served as a staff writer.

Best Perk: The ultimate, $10,000 perk comes with the title “Saint Benefactor,” and among many other perks, Daughterty will come to your house and wash your car while his girlfriend roller skates to hip-hop music. That’s certainly one of the more unusual ways you could spend ten grand.

Why You Should Fund It: Should they pick up the budget they are ultimately going for, Daugherty and Willson will be able to put together a digital drama of impeccable quality. Even the short clips they shared as part of their pitch display a high level of polish and subtlety, lending credence to the idea that Nobody will be a nuanced series to match its complicated themes. Character-driven dramas like this are rare on the web; I’d love to see one more put in front of the internet masses.
