Adaptive Studios and Blackpills are expanding their creative partnership. The former company is the producer behind Simi Valley, a suburban crime thriller that will be released through the latter company’s burgeoning content platform.
Simi Valley will follow a group of high schoolers who, struck by the inherent boredom of the titular suburban town in which they live, decide to immerse themselves in the local criminal underworld. That decision proves to have negative consequences, and the ringleader of the high schoolers must pull off a heist in order to set things right.
Adaptive Studios has become known for its tendency to pick up old, discarded scripts and repurpose them for distribution of new platforms. One of those scripts, Coin Heist
, became a Netflix original film, with many online video stars joining its cast. Adaptive is also the parent company of Project Greenlight Digital Studios, which has incubated up-and-coming filmmakers through a number of open competitions.Previously, Adaptive Studios and Blackpills teamed up for Pineapple, a Sundance hit that became one of the first projects Blackpills touted when it shared a full slate of content back in May. The Blackpills app, on which the platform houses its array of original programming, is available for both iOS and Android devices.
