Native Video-Sharing And Chat Feature Rolls Out To YouTube App Globally

YouTube is rolling out an in-app video-sharing feature that it began piloting last year to iOS and Andorid users worldwide.

The feature enables users to not only share videos with friends and family, but also discuss them in a standalone tab within the app. Users can reply to messages with other videos and also invite others to join in on a conversation — though each chat group has a maximum of 30 participants. “We think it’ll make sharing easier, faster, and more fun on your phone,” wrote product manager Benoît de Boursetty

in a blog post. “And if you want to continue sharing videos through other apps, you can still do that too.”

Here’s how the new feature, which is not yet available on desktops, looks in action:

YouTube launched the in-app sharing and chatting feature in Canada at the beginning of the year. The company also recently brought its Uptime app out of beta, which enables groups of users to watch and react to a video concurrently.
