On July 30, MTV announced its plan to bring back Total Request Live, the music video-oriented program colloquially referred to as TRL. The original version of TRL, which ran between 1998 and 2008, was an MTV staple that helped make host Carson Daly into a household name.
Now, for its rebooted version of TRL, MTV is tapping a rotating cast of up-and-coming hosts whom it believes are capable of leading hour-long shows. One of those hosts is Amy Pham, an actress who has a big following on social media.
During the episodes she hosts, Pham will be tasked with presenting music videos, interviewing celebrity guests, and interacting with a live studio audience that is expected to be bigger on average than the typical packed-in crowd of any old TRL installment. MTV also plans to share content from the show on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and Musical.ly, which makes Pham’s engaged digital following a strong asset. When she’s not on-screen, she’ll hand off hosting duties to one of four colleagues.

Pham, who is represented by the Abrams Artists Agency, previously landed roles in several projects led by digital stars, including Go90’s Confess and Maker Studios’ CrashPad. “To say that I’m excited is an understatement– my cheeks actually hurt because I haven’t stopped smiling!” she said about her new gig. “I am so honored to have the opportunity to be one of the hosts of MTV’s reboot of TRL. I absolutely love my co-hosts and I can’t wait to start filming in the amazing Times Square studio… this is about to be the best time ever!”
The new version of TRL will premiere on October 2.
