Vimeo Names Anjali Sud As Its New CEO

More than a year after Kerry Trainor announced his decision to step down as the CEO of Vimeo, the company has named an official replacement. Anjali Sud, previously the SVP of Vimeo’s creator business, will take over the video platforms top role, replacing interim CEO Joey Levin.

Sud joined Vimeo in 2014. After her 2016 promotion to SVP, she oversaw several creator-facing developments, including the launch of title cards, the introduction of a 360-degree video showcase, and the arrival of several tools for Vimeo’s professional class.

In ascending to CEO, Sud will take over the top role of a company that must now set a new course for itself after scraping plans to launch an SVOD service that would have delivered artful, high-quality content to subscribers. “Vimeo is entering an exciting chapter with a renewed focus on the core value that makes our brand special and beloved around the globe – being

the #1 platform to empower video creators,” said Sud in a press release. “With a world-class brand, exceptional product and thriving community, we are uniquely positioned to define new standards of storytelling and lead the $10 billion video creator market.”

Levin, who had previously pulled double duty as the CEO of both Vimeo and its parent company IAC, will retain the latter job while ceding the former to Sud. “Having spent the last year inside the business working closely with Anjali and the team at Vimeo, Anjali has stood out as a leader: she’s creative, confident, aggressive, and always thinks of our users first,” added Levin in the release. “She’s a natural leader, and I expect she will build a very big business at Vimeo.”

Vimeo, founded in 2004, claims to have 240 million monthly viewers. It is based in New York City
