Jérôme Jarre’s Next Plan For “Love Army” GoFundMe Initiative Is To Sponsor A Somali Village

Back in March, Jérôme Jarre spearheaded a group of creators known as the “Love Army” as it launched a GoFundMe campaign to battle the ongoing famine in Somalia. That initiative proved successful, with its supporters chipping in $2.5 million to support the residents of the African nation.

Now, the Love Army — which also counts social media stars Casey Neistat and Juanpa Zurita among its members — has returned to GoFundMe with another mission. This time, its goal is to find 2,196 backers who are each willing to chip in $25 per month to assist a small village currently suffering from the effects of an ongoing drought.

As Jarre explains, setting up the Love Army’s latest project took a lot of preparation. The village in the campaign’s sights had to be linked up with a wireless network, and its residents were then given smartphones and taught how to use them. Finally, GoFundMe had to set up a payment system that would allow contributors to send money directly to the villagers in need.

All of those tasks have been accomplished, and donors can now sign up to sponsor an impoverished Somali. In doing so, they will be able to communicate directly with the people who are benefitting from their generosity.

The Love Army hopes that sponsors will be willing to maintain their contributions for as long as the drought lasts. “$25 per month is not enough to reverse all the effect of the drought on someone’s life but it is enough for them to buy food and water for a month, and enough to buy medication if needed,” wrote Jarre on GoFundMe.

At the time of this post, the Love Army’s latest campaign has raised more than $10,000 and counting. If you’d like to pitch in $25 of your own, you can do so by clicking here.
