Shonduras Buys Top Esports Team, Launches ‘Spacestation Gaming’ Brand

Shaun ‘Shonduras’ McBride, who rose to renown on Snapchat and now headlines a burgeoning YouTube channel with over 1 million subscribers, has announced the purchase of an esports team and the launch of a company called Spacestation Gaming.

Spacestation will start competing in the Smite professional leagues with the top-tier North American team, McBride tells Tubefilter — though the venture will eventually expand to include other games and teams as well. “Our approach with esports will be much more hyper focused on social media and content creation,” he says. “Combined with a winning team, this could bring huge engagement and excitement from fans, and re-think the traditional esports organization model.”

McBride, an avid Smite fan, initially launched the Spacestation YouTube channel roughly two years ago as a platform for his own gaming videos. It relaunched today as a standalone venture and content hub. In addition to competing in high-profile tournaments, the Spacestation Smite team — which comprises captain Connor Echols and members Andrew Woodward, Conor Roberts, Alexander D’Souza, and Alex Fonzo — will utilize the channel to post original content in a bid to engage their fans.
