CBS is joining several of its network TV rivals in the world of Snapchat programming, and for its first original show on the ephemeral messaging app, it is turning to an affable late-night host who possess some amount of social media savvy. The Late Late Show’s James Corden will star in James Corden’s Next James Corden, which will premiere within Snapchat’s Discover section.
In the show, Corden will guide a fictional competition through which he will select his “replacement.” Along the way, he’ll keep help from Late Late Show bandleader Reggie Watts and others. As those covering this story have been quick to point out, this is all a gag. Corden is sticking around on CBS for the foreseeable future.
Corden has played a crucial role in the explosion of late night TV content on the internet. Videos of his Carpool Karaoke series have become so popular that one of them, featuring Adele, ended up as the top trending YouTube video of 2016. A spinoff of that show is coming soon (but delayed) over at Apple.

Given his digital pedigree, Corden is the ideal figure through which CBS can make its charge onto Snapchat. The Eye will use James Corden’s Next James Corden to keep pace with the likes of NBC and ABC, which have devised Snapchat original programs of their own.
A release date for James Corden’s Next James Corden hasn’t been announced, but the show is expected to arrive in the fall.
