It’s a well-known fact among her legions of fans that 22-year-old Gabi DeMartino — who is one half of the popular twin vlogging duo Niki And Gabi — is a superfan of Scream Queens, the Fox horror comedy helmed by Ryan Murphy.
And following the series’ just-announced cancellation after two seasons, DeMartino isn’t letting go. After testing the waters on Twitter to see whether her followers might be interested in a spin-off of sorts, DeMartino tells Tubefilter that she’ll be writing and starring in Blood Queens on her vlog channel — the third season of Scream Queens that never was.
“I took a lot of writing courses while I was in college,” DeMartino says. “I was honestly going to hire someone to do the writing for the show, but I am so specific at times, and when I have a vision I can become a control freak.”
Blood Queens will be set in an apartment complex that was once a hotel. When a killer in a clown mask murders a well-known socialite in the building, everybody becomes locked inside. New characters will be killed off in each of four total episodes, while DeMartino and her friends — who have dubbed themselves the “V-Squad” on social media — attempt to unmask the killer.
Check out the announcement, beginning at the three-minute mark, below:
The series is set to air on DeMartino’s vlog channel, which counts more than 1 million subscribers. It will premiere on Oct. 3, and the finale is set for Halloween. Blood Queens will be directed by Thomas Hughes with videography by Mike Leddy. DeMartino’s friends, including fellow social stars and V-Squad members Allie Bennicas and Nashaly Torres, will co-star.
Behind the scenes photos will be available on Instagram.
DeMartino, who is repped by WME, counts over 5 million subscribers on her YouTube channel alongside her twin sister — with whom she also makes music under the Niki And Gabi moniker. They released their first single, aptly dubbed First, in January, and it has thus far clocked 1 million Spotify streams and 5 million music video views. Last summer, the two co-headlined Fullscreen’s 24-city Girls Night In tour. DeMartino also appeared in YouTube Red’s first feature film, Dance Camp.
