At its first-ever NewFront presentation, the 40-year-old media brand Entrepreneur announced a shift in its editorial focus from covering small businesses themselves to covering the players behind startups who embody an entrepreneurial spirit.
To this end, the company, which today counts 14 million unique monthly web visitors and boasts a combined social audience of 11 million followers, unveiled a slate of six original series that will “aim to educate and motivate the next rock stars of the business world,” said the company’s president, Bill Shaw.
Elevator Pitch, co-produced by Entrepreneur and All3Media (Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, Undercover Boss), is not unlike Shark Tank on speed, where aspiring business owners must make a 60-second business pitch to a camera while riding in an empty elevator. A panel of judges on the top floor can opt to either open the doors and make a funding offer, or send participants right back down. Viewers will also be able to participate by funding certain ventures via Indiegogo.
Entrepreneur is also partnering with home design creator duo Mr. Kate and sponsor Staples on an office makeover series called Office Goals.
The company’s video arm, dubbed the Entrepeneur Network, will deploy a total of 37 series in 2017. The network also comprises partnerships with hundreds of top business-leaning YouTube channels that drive 50 million minutes of viewership every month. Content lives on the company’s own platforms as well as YouTube, Amazon Fire, Roku, and Apple TV. Other new series announced at the NewFronts, courtesy of Entrepreneur, include:
