Description: A provocative short film is set to inspire a series based off it. Josh Chesler and Paul Connor are the co-creators of The Applicant, which blends the frustration of business jargon with the elements of a taut thriller.

The Applicant started as a short film, which introduces the project’s setting and ends with a cracking twist. In creating their world, Chesler and Connor left plenty of mysteries unsolved. In particular, the nature of the company at the project’s center — which clouds its true intentions with the sort of meaningless copy you’d expect out of Silicon Valley — hides many secrets. In the forthcoming series, The Applicant‘s creators will slowly pull back the curtain, while hopefully including some more unexpected turns along the way. They offer more details about what they have planned in their pitch video:

Creator Bio: Chesler and Connor are film school buddies who are working together on The Applicant. Connor has also been seen on several TV series, including That 70s Show.

Best Perk: Anyone who pitches in at least $25 will be able to receive a copy of The Applicant‘s soundtrack, which can add a tense, moody vibe to any household activity.

Why You Should Fund It: The most exciting part of The Applicant‘s short film introduction is the sharp, fresh direction. For a self-financed project, Chesler and Connor managed to pull off a high-value production, and the plot they placed inside it is a real crowd-pleaser. What can they do with a bigger budget? I, for one, hope we will soon be able to find out.
