In its continuing quest to work Snapchat content into its yearly showcase, the Tribeca Film Festival has announced five projects that will vie for a coveted honor. The New York City-set event has selected the finalists for its Tribeca Snapchat Shorts contest, which challenges filmmakers to make compelling work on the app known for its short, disappearing videos.
While the finalist videos themselves are not available online, their descriptions show a mix of both comedy and drama. Some, like father-son bonding tale “Live Colorfully,” seem poised to reach more heartfelt territory, while others, such as “Owen Wilson Dates Himself,” (a parody of the titular actor) are there for the laughs.
The five finalists will be collected together with five Snapchat shorts created by previous Tribeca-selected filmmakers to form a ten-video program that will screen at New York’s Cinepolis Chelsea Theatre during the height of the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival. Ultimately, a panel of judges will select one of the shorts as the winner.
