YouTube Star Calfreezy Leads Soccer Team Made Up Of Creators

Not all YouTube stars sit in front of their computers and edit videos all day. Some of them are pretty serious athletes, and Callum “Calfreezy” Airey is looking to unite that group with a new venture. He has teamed up digital media company Brave Bison (formerly known as Rightster) to launch Rebel FC, a new soccer team featuring a roster of YouTube content creators.

The members of Rebel FC include a number of big-name YouTube stars like Airey and Mike Fox, mid-tier operators like REEV, hughwizzy, and SV2, and smaller creators like Andrew Savva and Rhys Anderson. The group will be managed by Rio Ferdinand, the former Manchester United great who made 81 appearances for England’s national team.

We shouldn’t expect to see Rebel FC in the Champions League anytime soon, but many of its featured creators have soccer skills to match their videomaking abilities. The team members showed off a few tricks in a video introducing them.

Rebel FC will function as an actual team, but its players will also vlog about their experiences both on and off the pitch, turning the venture into an online video community of sorts. “Rebel FC is a team of passionate football fans who instead of choosing the traditional route to the top in football, are rebelling against the system and taking a chance on a different way in,” said Airey in a press release. “They’re aiming high and committed to taking Rebel FC to the highest reaches of the footballing world.”

The idea of a YouTuber sports team hasn’t yet caught on in the States, but Rebel FC is not the first soccer outfit made up of digital media influencers. The team’s first match will come against another such outfit — Creators FC, which is led captained by online video star Andy Cassell of the AJ3 channel.
