Studio71 Hires Exec To Oversee Scripted Content Push

Since merging with Collective Digital Studios in January 2016, Studio71 has engineered a number of long-form projects. Now, the digital media company has hired an exec with Hollywood experience to continue its charge into new frontiers. It has brought in Michael Schreiber, formerly of Tapestry Films, as its first ever Head of Scripted Content.

At Studio71, Schreiber will work on high-profile projects that will be released through both digital and traditional platforms. As one of his first tasks, he will oversee Lifeline, an upcoming series produced by Studio71 partner Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s company. The cast for that project, led by Zach Gilford and Sydney Park, was recently announced.

Beyond Lifeline, Studio71 has several more scripted projects in the works. It revealed several of the programs in its pipeline during its 2016 Newfronts address.

At Tapestry, where Schreiber spent 12 years, he most recently held the role of President. The most famous film he worked on was the 2005 comedy Wedding Crashers, which earned $285 million at the box office. “Michael understands our audience and has an outstanding industry track record. His addition to the team demonstrates our on-going commitment to premium content,” said Dan Weinstein, President of Studio71, in a press release. “He will help us expand our ability to serve the growing demand from digital platforms as well as more traditional media outlets by affording opportunities for our top tier creators.”

In total, Studio71’s creator network spans more than 1,200 channels. Those partners combine to draw more than six billion views per month.
