BuzzFeed’s massively popular Tasty brand, which posts snack-sized cooking tutorials on Facebook, reportedly clocked 23 billion video views in 2016 and now counts upwards of 81 billion fans on the world’s largest social network.
Beyond its yummy-looking recipe videos, however, one of the outlet’s latest posts is garnering buzz for slightly different reasons. In the comments section of a clip posted Tuesday for Chocolate Fudge Brownie Cheesecake, one Tasty fan — a propos of nothing — asked fellow viewers to help her compile a Valentine’s Day message for her boyfriend. “Please help me out!” wrote Kansas native Rhya Pearson. “If you all could write, ‘David, my love for you is so big it’s reached _______.’ Take a picture, and then post in the comments. Thank you so much!”
And in an illustration of Tasty’s diverse yet interconnected community, responses to Pearson’s Valentine’s Day plea promptly started flooding in from across the globe. Commenters offered images and messages from Egypt, China, Vietnam, Norway, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Australia, and Puerto Rico. One particularly lovestruck commenter even sent a message from what appears to be a toilet
in Long Island, N.Y.It is unclear what exactly Pearson plans to do with all the responses — though she said she will share the finished product with everyone who participated.
Tasty’s Chocolate Fudge Brownie Cheesecake recipe video currently counts 23 million views on Facebook and a total of 75,000 comments. Pearson’s thread, in particular, counts 152 direct replies.
