This Facebook Recipe Video Is Going Viral For Being Disgusting

Have we reached peak Facebook recipe video?

While the BuzzFeed-run food channel Tasty has given way to a whole new content genre of simple-yet-satisfying time-lapse cooking videos — and is building a multi-faceted media empire in the process — a video recipe from competitor PopSugar is going viral for all the wrong reasons. The clip, for Wine & Cheese Shots (below), instructs viewers to dollop melted cheddar cheese into silicone shot-glass molds and then pour red wine inside.

“These look so perfect,” says host Brandi Milloy somewhat unconvincingly, before taking a sip-bite. “This is the best way to enjoy wine and cheese.”

Viewers, as noted by The Verge, did not necessarily concur. Though the video has been watched roughly 3.5 million times since it was posted on Monday, top commenters seethed with disgust. “This is the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen,” wrote one viewer in a comment that has received 2,700 thumbs up. “Just because wine and cheese go together doesn’t mean you want one soaked in the other,” wrote another PopSugar fan.

Beyond this incident, there are even, it turns out, subreddits dedicated to tracking unappetizing food videos and memes — and Wine & Cheese Shots currently claims the top spot within both forums.

Despite the near-unanimous disgust, the clip is doing huge numbers for PopSugar, whose Food page counts roughly 475,000 likes. (Tasty’s, for comparison’s sake, counts roughly 78 million). While PopSugar food clips rarely cross the million views threshold, the Wine & Cheese Shot recipe video has also been shared more than 12,000 times and counts more than 17,000 comments.
