Despite ‘Fuller House’ Ratings Drop, Netflix Brings It Back For Season Three

The first season of Fuller House was reportedly a huge hit for Netflix, but the show’s second season is not believed to have reached the same heights. Now, the Full House reboot will get another chance to show where it stands, as Netflix has picked up a third season of it.

Fuller House centers around D.J. Tanner-Fuller (Candace Cameron Bure), who was also one of the principal characters in Full House. Most of the original show’s cast members returned to reprise their roles in the reboot, with the notable exception of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen.

After almost a full year of pre-release hype, Fuller House premiered in February 2016. It generated a wave of nostalgia, which it rode to a strong performance. While Netflix does not release viewership figures, analytics company Symphony Advanced Media said the first season of Fuller House

competed with TV heavyweights like The Walking Dead and Sunday Night Football.

The second season of the show did not make the same impact. Symphony reported a 62% ratings dip for that batch of episodes. One catalyst for the drop may have been the lackluster critical reviews Fuller House has drawn since its launch.

Netflix, for its part, has at points called Symphony’s data inaccurate, and the streaming video platform seems like it still has faith in the Fuller-Tanner clan. The third season announcement was made through a Christmas Eve social media post:

Additional information about the third season of Fuller House, including its launch date, has not yet been announced.
